Guidance At Point Of Care
Kai Health emerged from a perfect storm of market opportunity and clinical necessity. When Microsoft acquired Nuance in 2021, they made a strategic decision to focus on ambient technology and discontinued ED Guidance—a clinical decision support tool that clinical leadership was excited about. This left a significant vacancy in the market precisely when healthcare organizations needed clinical decision support most.
Kai Health’s founders saw this gap as more than just a business opportunity—it was a chance to solve the broader systematic challenges they witnessed throughout the risk and clinical environments. Rather than simply recreating ED Guidance's capabilities, the founding team set out to address the interconnected problems that traditional clinical decision support tools had never tackled.
Through partnership with The Sullivan Group, Kai Health would embed the proven RSQ® methodology that had demonstrated measurable liability reduction (including 71% reduction in diagnosis-related malpractice claims at the largest health system in the country over 10 years) across 800+ facilities.
Through collaboration with Mariana Health and insights from Mitch Laird's work, the platform would address systematic revenue leakage by steering referrals to care navigators immediately, dramatically increasing the likelihood of appointment completion and keeping revenue within the health system.
Unlike ED Guidance's focus on point-of-care decision support, Kai Health would create an autonomous performance improvement system addressing clinical excellence, financial optimization, and systematic inefficiencies simultaneously.
